An incomparable naturalistic scenery, with its woods, clearings and very rich wildlife. Head to the hills of Campania for breathtaking nature, stunning views, and rich culture, all the while with a glass of the local region's wines in hand.
Irpinia doesn’t ‘truly’ exist anymore. In so far as that the area is now called the Province of Avellino, but you’ll still hear it referred to as Irpinia in reference to the ancient tribe that once lived among these hills.
The region may be landlocked, but it is not far from the sea. Most of the sites are under an hour away from Naples by car. And thanks to an extensive highway system, you can roam through a huge network of towns that each have unique offerings.
Cyclist and hikers rejoice, the Campnia region offers an endless plethora of trails to explore the region by foot. As the seasons turn, however, different offerings emerge for the outdoor enthusiast. Head to the Laceno Ski Resort in the more blustering months for a bit of winter fun. Or roam through the Monti Picentini Regional Park in search of the two natural oases in warmer weather. The bonus after all the physical exertion? A wine tasting or dinner at one of the 80 wineries dislocated in the territory.
It is in these hills that the region’s most famed foods and wine are made. Large pastures feed the buffalos whose milk becomes creamy and slightly tangy mozzarella. San Marzano tomatoes soak up the sun and later are spread as a paste on pizza. Hazelnuts, black truffles, cherries, chestnuts and olive oil all make their seasonal appearances. And of course, vineyards spring up on steep slopes which are pressed and made into the region’s best: Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, Aglianico and Taurasi.

Magically suspended between the blue sky and the iridescent colored sea, the Amalfi Coast seems to be born from the palette of a painter who wanted to use the warmer color gradients for creating a landscape that enchants the visitor at the first shot, giving such evocative view to doubt, for a moment, it is real. The vertical landscape is characterized by a picturesque labyrinth of stairways and narrow alleys, connecting the two main elements of this landscape: the mountains and the sea.
Pompeii is one of the most significant proofs of Roman civilization and, like an open book, it provides outstanding information about art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past.
The city has re-emerged from the darkness of centuries precisely as it would have been when it was unexpectedly buried in the thick layer of ash and lava which poured down from the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D.
